This lovely Kaoru Kawano framed woodblock print Child and Bird was likely created in the 1950s. Kawano prints were not dated. Both the print and black painted wood frame are in excellent, vintage condition. Print includes the artist's seal however I don't see a visible signature.
Kaoru Kawano (1916-1965) was a woodblock print artist born in Hokkaido, Japan. He studied at the Kawabata Art School in the1930s.
In the 1950s, he gained an international reputation through his successful solo exhibitions in North America and around the world. His prints were often of children and animals and they combined Western-style elements with the tradition of Japanese woodblock printmaking.
