This is a wonderful hand carved, wooden bust of a mariner wearing a Sou'Wester hat. Signed by the artist, Marcel Guay. I'm unsure of the type of wood. This piece is in excellent condition. 

Since the 1930s, the Bourgault family of Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, Quebec has been world renowned for wood sculpture. Marcel Guay studied under Andre Bourgault before opening his own establishment in 1964.
