This is a very large and detailed hand carved, wood sculpture, by Marcel Guay. Signed by the artist. I'm unsure of the type of wood but it's likely pine. This piece is in excellent condition. 

Since the 1930s, the Bourgault family of Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, Quebec has been world renowned for wood sculpture. Marcel Guay studied under Andre Bourgault before opening his own establishment in 1964.
