Two (2) antique Faience plates in good condition circa late-1800's. Hand-painted and signed A. Montagnon.
French Faience Montagnon Scalloped Plates (2) made in the Nevers region of France. A White background with bright cornflower blue, yellow, green, and sepia. Plate backs are glazed. The underside is marked with a large bow and signed by Antoine Montagnon and number 24 or 29.
Nevers faience was a famous art pottery technique whereby tin glazes and decorations were applied over terracotta clay forms, and fired several times in a kiln.
Note: Plates are a matching pair however one has more crazing and glaze fade than the other. This listing is for both plates.
